The SwingGenny revisited
« on: July 20, 2011, 04:05:21 PM »
Hi everyone....can't find the original pics of my swing glider like this

but I started work on a new improved compact version of the ratchet
mechanism, using the ratchet action of an old 5 speed deraileur.
I respoked it to a small 12 inch bike wheel then a brake rotor gets attached
to it for the flywheel.
Belt drive to treadmill generator since the treadmill motor has a nice pulley
that a clothes dryer belt fits....then just the right size pulley on th flywheel.
Will send pics as I progress.
No ....my swing glider don't look as good as the above picture....needs a coat
of paint as to be expected....hmmm how long ago was that?
BTW the sun has been really hot.....swinging is a good way to keep cool.

I'll be working on the frame for the ratchet device today in spite of the heat...
really need an awning over the swing.....
The swing generator would really be a nice thing for 3rd world countries.
Some more pics later on today.

I lied....got too hot...for me!  93-96 degrees ....if I can even pedal 25 watt/hrs instead of my usual 50
will be all I can handle....
Not going to be too much outdoor work for me for awhile.
today about 5 watt/hrs at a time ....or less long breaks took 1 cool shower so far...
Good news we haven't been using too much hot water lately!
Next week is still going to be more nearly 90 degree weather.....
