Snap Disc Thermostat
« on: September 28, 2011, 02:27:04 PM »
Hi Guys,

I am redoing a solar air heating panel I made 2 years ago now I've learned a bit more about their dynamics etc.  I plan on adding a close on rise snap disc thermostat and wondering which you would go with

close 120*F  open 105*F http://www.amazon.com/Senasys-120%C2%B0F-Fan-Style-Snap-Disc-Switch/dp/B0026RTEZC

or

close 100*F open 85*F  http://www.amazon.com/Senasys-100%C2%B0F-Fan-Style-Snap-Disc-Switch/dp/B0026RYU4W

I am looking at these mostly because I can do 12v or 110 with it.

Thanks for the input!

At 12 volts and miniscule current like that I would use them. Trouble starts when they make / break circuits that draw a lot of current and it pits and carbonizes or welds the contacts drawing arcs when it cycles..

But then I like to do stuff differently and am comfortable messing with this stuff.

Might even consider a generic thermostat from a big-box store.
Trigger temp and 'anticipation' (Delta T?) are adjustable.

I helped CmeBrew set one up a while back.
Might find it with google.  It's somewhere on Gary's BuildItSolar, and CmeBrew posted it here mayybe in a diary (IIRC).
