small wind generator with variable pitch blades
« on: September 18, 2006, 04:25:46 PM »
I was at http://www.ecoexpo.ca on the weekend and saw a wind turbine from http://www.vpturbines.com

This is a small windmill that uses variable pitch blades.

You can almost make out the mechanism here: http://www.vpturbines.com/html/details_0.html

I wish I had taken my camera with to the show, because they had one there, with the nose cone off, so you could get a clear look at the mechanism.

It doesn't look that hard to make, for someone with access to a machine shop. The hard part would be finding springs of the right strength to offset the forces acting on the blades as the wind speed increases.

Looks like another Co. using a modified auto alternator.

Yeah, I think it is funny when these "companies" spend so much time on there gimmick, and marketing, and so much time avoiding doing what many of us here do all the time, which is build the actual genny.

I saw their design and I worked out the following which seems to be allot simplier.
