scrap value of fork lift battery
« on: December 18, 2011, 09:21:32 PM »
I can buy two 24 volt 510 amp/hr  batteries for $1000. dollars . Supposedly they  were lightly used just been sitting for awhile. All cells supposedly test good..I guess they weigh about 950 lbs. Batteries are about five hours away. Any idea what they are worth for scrap if they turn out junk. I need 48 volts so I need all cells to be good.
Thanks

A couple summers ago I bought 810 AH @ 36 volts for $200. GNB sealed units. High graded cells for a 24 volt bank @810 AH. Been running fine ever since. Seems it was 2200# but I forget. I made a diary on it if you care to look at it.

Here it is with accurate info if interested:

Just what I paid as "salvage" a couple years ago

A quick Google search lists one place that will give you a quote, but it depends on distance and the weight of the batteries. Under 42k pounds is less than a truckload and over a certain distance they aren't interested. Scrap lead isn't the same thing as scrap flooded lead acid batteries.

At work we had a dead lift with a 400AH 24v battery and Deka offered us $60 for it. We got that battery fixed and the lift restored, fortunately. 4 brand new 6v flooded batteries that would have replaced the flooded battery in that lift cost about $650.

Based on that, I would say you are being asked to pay too much for used.
