Animal water tank (Stock tank) heating - warming

The following URL goes to a page which illustrates an interesting way of heating (warming) an animal water tank in cold weather.
Scroll down.

This subject occasionally arises in this forum and some members may be interested in the concept.

This is a "pet project" of mine (pun intended) dating back a couple of years.  Gary's page was my inspiration, since he was already experimenting with these.  After I had a go at it, Gary has improved the insulated box design several times over, and it shows in the efficiency data he's collected.

Where I live I need electric heat (usually) between December and March.  The insulated stock troughs have reduced my electricity use drastically.  I have also started employing the water heater in the stock trough as an "auxiliary" wind turbine dump.  Not official yet, but this extra step is close to providing the majority of the water thawing electricity from my wind and solar equipment.

How did you notice this subject?  Aren't you sweating these days?

Hello Spar Web.

Thanks for your note.

I like keeping my eyes open for interesting websites that contain material or information that may well be useful to fellow forumites.

I think it helps to give this website some balance and provides a few minutes light reading for a cold night.

Its pretty damn cool in Hong Kong today - temperature is down to 8 degrees above - Celsius. However, the monsoon will recede in the next day or so and we should be back to sunny weather and clear blue skies this weekend.

Regards,

Dave

Since it's been +10C since yesterday, I can't complain either!
And the water doesn't need thawing, obviously.   :)
