Pico-hydro power project in Amazonia
« on: February 19, 2012, 08:49:20 PM »
Hi,

We would like to install a 10Kw experimental plant in the Peruvian Amazon to feed a small freezer and possibly some local lighting. It is siutated on a tributary of the Amazon river. The river is about 100m wide, probably 5 - 10m deep and fast moving -  but horizontal.

The closest I got in terms of finding relevant information is here:

http://www.builditsolar.com/Projects/Hydro/FlowOfRiver/FlowOfRiver.htm

Does anyone have opinions on the easiest / lowest cost design (not necessarily the most efficient)? We want the lowest-tech solution we can find - so it can be built here, if possible.

Many thanks for any input!!!

Angus.

Low tech does not always have to be equated with onsite construction.

That Gorlov design has a lot to offer, especially considering the massive water resource you have to draw from.

Think it through.  10kW may be a bit ambitious for a primitive design
