I believe there is a song like that"tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow" this thread is getting boring with tomorrow's, not much learning going on!

SteadFast;
It ain't tomorrow yet  ;).
I truly had hopped for far better from him than this.
Now I'm not so sure.
It's now one bird in hand is better than two Redelcos on the way  8).
Best of luck!

Tony at Hurricane called:
He said my experimental  PMA will be in the mail tomorrow..."For sure".  ???

The whole process only took 92 days...from order to delivery...
I am the very model of "The Patient Man", am I not?   8)
.
.

If he is mailing it "Tomorrow" then how can you count days from order till delivered until it IS delivered?  ???

If he does mail it tomarrow, I can assume it will arrive on the 26th, at the latest...
That makes delivery 92 days from March 26th, the day I coughed up my $260...

I can only hope (for his sake) we are all "amazed" by its output...
Its possible...

We mostly know what kind of energy Chris' Axil Generator on the HBird should produce.

But Now, after this LONG wait,
my curiosity is really starting to get to me...

I may just fly his PMA on the LBird first...

What do you guys think I should do?

Honestly I would gear up the tower to hold the Hbird and not wait for the Redelco to show up.
You've given it more than enough time to arrive, heck even I could've rebuilt one by now and I don't have any of those fancy vortex inducing magnets.
Get the one ChrisO sent up (SAFELY!!)  and get some much needed sights and info for your sanity and possibly you're wife's too ;)
Just what I'd be doing

A very good series of points Bruce,
My whole family.... DESPERATLY NEEDS.... to see a turbine spinning soon!

At this moment, I must confess,
my wife has made it clear that she is barely hanging on to the last thread of her tolerance for this project!  :-[

GOBBS and GOBBS of money out,
Weeks and Weeks of time blown,
Tons and Tons of scrap steel created,
with not a single volt from the wind to show for it.  >:(

There have been many instances where I have sworn out loud that "I should have gone Solar..."
But I am so UNDER THIS now (I have no other choice) that I MUST and Will finish this race.

This BY FAR has been the most daunting and challenging project of my life!
(but I have also learned SO MUCH by doing it too that I would never have learned by just tossing my money at solar.)

You guys have also been more than generous too...
This weighs heavily on the HBird's behalf as well...

I just fiquire after all the advice and effort you folks have given to this project,
that you guys should have the choice of which Bird should fly first!

IF you were to poll most everyone here that has helped, you'll find they too would be in the BTDT category, myself included.
At one point my wife simply refused to even be in the room when we started talking RE, she'd already put up with seeing the stuff go up, seeing the letters from the city, etc etc etc.
I have kinda stayed in the background keeping some (NOT ALL ) the wolves off yer tail while watching others help.
Keep plugging away, slow down on the money side, and put any extra money and efforts into safety.
There is ONE thing that sets you apart from others, YOU are DOING, MAKING and LEARNING.
This while others are backseat driving.
NO matter how much other do'ers jump down your throat about safety, your life as well as other lives close to the mill; are really what they are concerned about.

I've NOT yet met ChrisO in person , but I don't think he'd shipped you a 'mill if he didn't think you were worth the time of effort.

Once HBird is up and spinning things will settle down, then go have a room tempera BEER and enjoy the moment , then post!!
Cheers WE'RE PULLING FOR YA!!

Ditto what Bruce said.   The turtlebucks spent are from the education fund, not the parts or R&D fund.    Since college can be expensive, I don't feel so bad about having lots of money tied up in things not yet finished/making watts.  (gov't accounting?)   With all the H2 stuff, I'm closing in on five figures.

My wife seems to understand this, and that's important to my staying at it so long.   Don't cross the line, and remember: Learn from the mistakes of others.  You'll never be able to afford to make them all yourself

Just think of where we would be today if these guys had spent their time in Academia instead of AUtododactic
•   Franklin, Benjamin, •George Westinghouse, •   Thomas Edison, •Nikola Tesla, •Michael   Faraday, Philo T. Farnsworth, Reginald Aubrey Fessenden,
Sme of the manes you may have recognized Al of these men have 2 things in common #1 they were for the most part self educated even though some received degrees later in life #2 all of them had a significant part in the development of things electrical,
there are many others to be sure, some even more famous than these in other fields
One of the  influentials I did not include was George Ohm my reasoning for this is while he did teach himself much of what he shared with the world he was a degree carrying academic before he wrote the famous OHM's Law.
read the attached file for a few more names you may recognize who were huge contributors of history.

Some of us may razz you from time to time about your methods some have already gone through your mistakes and  have learned form them some have not. Many simply take things as it has to be done this way because everybody else does it that way. Some have forgotten what it was like to try and do something for the first time.

Remember experimentation is the key to learning. If everything worked the first time we would never learn very much.
Sharing failed projects are perhaps more important than the ones that work the first time

Which turbine should fly? I'm not Chris Olson although I did play him on TV once, but his advice and my advice throughout this whole fiasco has been to put up his machine and call  Tony and get your money back from him, it will give him an out and make your wife a little happier to at least get that money back.
That thing will never produce ANY appreciable power anyway.

That s just it we have all explained over and over, in this universe, operating under the physical rules that exist here, none of us will be amazed by the output, we know what the output will be within a few watts, given the physical internal size of the redelco and the amount of magnet and copper that can be crammed into it, you can't fool mother nature.
So there aint gonna be any surprises period guaranteed.

ok,  I spoke to Tony at Huricane,

He told me that he kept MY PMA until he could fiquire out how to replicate how he made it...  :(
which he finally did.

He told me that he hooked it up under a 12 volt load and was producing 10 watts with a hand drill.  He told me he will be shooting a video today useing a doc wattson and his lathe. He will post that video tonight on You tube. I told him to call me when the video is posted.  As soon as he posts it, I WILL have it posted here.

AND....he told me he WILL have it in the mail tomarrow...
What more can I say about all this folks?

Mastiffman;
In a word >>NO.
math = E*I=P or Volt*Amps=watts.
So if he has 12V and ONLY putting out 10 watt that's 10/12 = 0.8Amps.
NOW there's tons of stuff being left out like what RPM was the hand drill turning the "Redelco" at,etc, etc, etc  ;)
Can we now start a pool as to whether to VID is up there tonight?
Bummer!

Hi

I can't understand why he needs to see how he made it to replicate it. If it is a well organised development project he should be keeping notes and drawings, or at least a photograph or two. Having stripped and rewound several alternators, apart from wire gauge, there is not much to do, there could be several permutations of magnets on the rotor.

He should also have had it in the lathe before notifying you. 10 Watts with a hand drill????? What sort of hand drill, cordless, mains powered, or a thing with a handle to turn on the side?  You still don't know what the shaft speed was that it did 10W.  My cordless handrill does 600 and 1800 RPM, both are too high for a wind turbine that should be cutting in at 150 RPM.  What was the 12 V  load, car bulb or carbon pile?  I would be impressed if it was a battery.

I don't feel like reading back through the whole post but I am sure I read "Definitely in the post tomorrow" figures more than once.  By now I would be getting the tower ready for Chris's turbine, and writing the letter telling him, politely, to stuff the candy striped polka dotted red thing and send the money back.  Put it into solar, and taking the long suffering wife out to dinner.

Brian.

Assuming it was 10 amps, not 10 watts:

So,
If his PMA makes 13.5V at 120 rpm and generates 10 amps,
does that mean he is also making 135 watts?

or is that 13500 watts?  nah... That can't be right....

is not 1200 watts at 120 volts is 10 amps?
