24 <-> 48 volt conversion?

I like 48v for transmission purposes but most of the appliances I plan on buying are 24v. I've seen 12v -> 5v DC-DC converters but is there anything that would efficiently step down 48 to 24v?

Transmitting DC off-grid power at 48 volts is yesterday's news. Just go with your 24 volt system and equipment, run the solar (and wind power if you have it) up to 150-250 volts, and step it down to 24 with these things:
