Will this work?
« on: May 02, 2013, 07:24:57 AM »
Long time lurker, first post.   I do appreciate the info and knowledge on this site.

I have a generator that was purchased at an auction.   The gas motor that drove it was junk and is long gone.   My question is, would it make a wind generator?   I realize I would have to gear it up, but could never make 3600 RPM's   Would I be wasting my time?

Specs following:

Groban Supply Co.
Model =1010
RPM = 3600
Phase =1
Cycles = 60
PF = 1
AC Volts = 115
Amps = 8.7
Watts = 1000
KW = 1

Thanks in advance
Jim

No use for wind, the gearing is not viable and also it will likely only work over a very small speed range, especially if it is capacitor excited.

Thank you Flux for your reply.   I was afraid that the answer would be something like you stated, but I wouldn't know unless I asked.   Thank you very much
