Chinese inverter
« on: September 09, 2013, 03:45:53 PM »
I am getting ready to install a solar system on my house I am remodeling. I have approximately 6000 W of solar panels. I am going with a 24 old system and am looking at inverters. I saw a 5000/10,000 W pure sine wave Chinese inverter for about $500. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with these and if there are any good?

Does a 5kw-10kw true sine inverter for $500 make any sense? Never mind who makes it.

This Xantrex is not a sine inverter and it costs more than $500.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5000w-pure-sine-wave-power-inverter-12v-dc-to-220v-240v-ac-car-power-inverter-/221197512294?pt=BI_Generators&hash=item3380662e66 This one has to be a bald faced lie. 10kw peak at 12v is over 800 amps.

At 5kw you need at least a 48v bank. Even then you would be pulling over 200 amps at the 10kw rated peak. 5kw at 24v is 200 amps+ That's enough power to start a semi.

The largest Xantrex Prosine Inverter at 12v is 1800 watts. Those sell for over $1k.

This 24v Outback is $1700 for 3500 watts grid-tie capable. http://www.solarhome.org/outbackgvfx3524inverter.aspx

i could probably build a 5KW induction heater for well under 300$ in parts.
the most expensive component would be a trade off between 28$ in mosfets and the water tank, radiator and water pump.

that said its a chinease inverter.. i wouldn't touch it with a 10.16cm long pole.

dnix is spot on. Crazy to throw that many panels up and buy a crappy inverter. I'd go 48V as well or you won't really be able to use all that power.

And as my grandma used to say "you're too poor to bu cheap".

any inverter that you need to depend on will be total Fing garbage for any thing under a 1K imo, so ya stay away from it!
