What is reasonable to pay for an Ametek 99?
« on: October 19, 2013, 06:07:00 PM »
Hi. PM prices seem to be all over the place on ebay with all sorts of claims. I understand the Ametek 99 is one of the best motors for a home wind turbine but with all the noise on prices, some appearing quite high, is an Ametek 99 an old option now and not so sought afterhow and much is reasonable to pay for one?
 :-\
Thanks

Look for a GE ECM motor, much better, easy modification.

Hi. Not sure what mods are needed for these ?.
I'm basically trying to get an idea of whether an Ametek99 is worth selling at all.  I'm thinking of putting mine on UK ebay. With some regret of course. It was a bit of a proud moment to find and get one after years of hunting.  8)
But - new motors come in from overseas, prices go up and down, and Ametek99 seem so rare its hard judge.
I can't see myself getting time to getting it up and whirring  :-\
This is the closest I got - a youtube video of hand cranking it! :D

It needs a better home..and some blades on it..!
Can post an ebay link if I do decide to.

Knowing that you're NOT going to be putting one up anytime soon, and there being better ECM types that require less mods; then the better bet would be to put it up online, let someone else learn from it and pocket the money.
Just a thought

Last one that sold on eBay went for $286, 2 before it went for $249 so make your call from there.

Hi. Thanks for the pointers.
Bit concerning with it being in the UK - fewer people likely to be interested, but high postage to the US or elsewhere might be off putting, even if these are a bit rare and actually not that bad for the job. ???

It's gone on there today.

Well.. it didn't sell with a starting price of $140. Relisted again with a buy it now but is there something on the market better than Ametek 99 for the price??

yes indeed there is.  the last servo motor i purchased off ebay was exactly $140, (shipped) and it's a 60lb bugger capable of over 1000w with 8-9' blades.  i know this because i've got an almost identical servo running on my current mill.

personally, i wouldn't pay over $40 for an ametek 99.  but that's because i know the hype is more powerful than the motor.  others may not know that, and be willing to pay much more.

good luck with the sale!

I paid £25 UK for the last 99 I got hold of, for that price it's output was reasonable - there's been a few over the past few months on Ebay UK asking for very silly money - none of which sold so perhaps folks have realised the hype was fairly groundless

£130 is really silly money - dare I ask what you paid for it ?
