Today I have added the 2-pages note: "10-pole PM-generator" to my website:
www.kdwindturbines.nl at the bottom of the list KD-reports. Recently I visited a local company in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for a PUM-mission. One has shown me a 10-pole armature from a PM-generator or a PM-motor which was saved from a scrap yard. The stator with coils wasn't available. At that time I could not understand why one would have choosen for ten poles. But coming home, I though about it and I think that I have found the reason. It must be to increase the number of preference positions per revolution and so to decrease the peak on the sticking torque. I also designed a 10-pole stator winding for which all 36 slots are used. Figure 1 in this note gives an impression of such a 10-pole generator based on the housing of an asynchronous motor.
