Advanced WindWall -

"Cut In Speed 1.5 mph"

"Rated Power Wind Speed: 65 mph"

I hope they have good marketing.

Before this gets zapped by TomW, can someone answer this for me?

The rotor of this turbine is about 9 inches in diameter, has 9 blades and generates 1 KW.

How fast does it have to spin to generate 1KW and how fast has the wind have to move?
Will an F5 tornado with 300 MPH be enough or do we need an F12?

The rotor of this turbine is about 9 inches in diameter, has 9 blades and generates 1 KW.

Per their page it has 11 airfoils

With its 11 airfoils, we capture more energy out of the wind than any other turbine ever created.

Must be those two extra that gets it over the top

I needed a good laugh

I think that threads of this kind are useful. I don't know Mr. Robert Yost, and I don't know if he is an honest man or a scammer. There are times when someone with good intentions has an idea that seems to make sense. This person doesn't have all the answers. Then a savvy unscrupulous marketer gets in the picture. Soon they come up with a product and start making unrealistic claims. The unscrupulous marketer doesn't know anything about the product. He is only interested in money, not reputation. But at the end, it is the naïve guy with the original idea that ends up losing everything; reputation, investments and everything else.

If Mr. Yost or any of his business associates would land on this forum and read the comments, he would realize that we are skeptical for a reason. We know about what makes electric power. Volts, amps and ohms. That is what determines watts or KILOWATTS. Not just claims and computer generated images on a fancy website.

Could someone develop a wind turbine that would be considered a breakthrough because of a large jump in efficiency and output? Sure, there are always advances in technology and new materials.

If you develop that type of breakthrough, thoroughly test it before you start marketing it. Place it in some university to be tested and evaluated and have some independent lab do the same thing. If the testing and evaluations confirm your claims, it will be a lot easier to sell the product.

For the people that are thinking of investing in any kind of power generating system and come here hoping to get some information, I have this advice:

Before you put your money into any of these systems, make sure that you speak with satisfied customers that have been using that system for a few months. AND, make sure that they are real customers and not just relatives or business associates of the company selling the product.

MagnetJuice,

Very nicely said.  I will keep a copy as a hand out when I do some lectures.!

Some of us that actually fly electricity generating Wind Turbines, mine are Hugh Piggott design, soon get to know the realities of producing energy.

However, over the past 10 years or so I have found, personal experience, that a good percentage of folk on Renewable Energy Forums around this World, seem to be straight away antagonistic to New ideas.

However, this Fieldlines forum has the most Even handed and knowledgeable, Moderators that I know off in this day and age, that still encourage New concepts but politely calm down the fraudulent ones.

Keep it up Moderators you are doing fine!

I read the ad and did the math. They aren't claiming impossible physics, the rated power is simply at 65 MPH wind as Kitestrings noted earlier in the thread. As long as you have steady gale force winds at your location this should work as advertised. https://www.redbull.com/int-en/7-windiest-places-on-earth

Otherwise, not so much.
