Report KD 664 about VIRYA-1.8W rotor available
« on: November 07, 2018, 05:16:55 AM »
Report KD 664 can be copied for free from my website: www.kdwindturbines.nl at the menu KD-reports. The title of this report is: "Calculations executed for the 2-bladed rotor of the VIRYA-1.8W windmill (lambda design = 6.25, wooden blades) used in combination with an 8-pole permanent magnet generator frame size 71 with a stator with no iron in the coils".

This rotor is meant to be used in combination with the PM-generator which is described in public report KD 644. The VIRYA-1.8W can be used in combination with the tower and head of the VIRYA-1.8. Fotos of the drawings of these tower and head are given in the manual part 2 of the VIRYA-1.81 which is given at the bottom of the list with KD-reports.

KD 664 contains detailed drawings of the rotor and the hub in the appendix. To give an impression, I have copied drawing 1801-01 in the attachment.

I saw the 1.8W and assumed a tiny unit of 1.8 Watts.
A more descriptive name would be helpful.
Looks like an excellent contribution.

Thank you,
Gary

All my wind turbines have as name VIRYA (which means energy in Sanskrit) followed by the rotor diameter in m. However, the VIRYA-1.8 with three stainless steel blades already existed and so I have added a W because this new rotor has two wooden blades. The W has nothing to do with the maximum power which can be generated and which is about 230 W at V = 11 m/s (see figure 5 KD 664). But it would be good if someone builds the generator and tests if it has about the Pmech-n and Pel-n curves which I have estimated in figure 4 of KD 664.
