Finally got the silly thing on the tower.

https://youtu.be/BIwC7gCrlPw

I'll have another video of it up later today...tied to my 36v bank it's just just free wheeling and really spooling up, only made about 15w and it was REALLY spinning.  I disconnected it and measured open voltage and it was only making about 18vdc after the rectifier.  Not sure what happened between the bench test and here but whatever.

Right now I've got it hooked directly to a 10~30v grid tie inverter as a load and it's doing better, but still only making about 90w in a good breeze.  It's suppose to get quite gusty this afternoon and I'm hoping it'll do better then.

Oh MakGiver! I see you got yourself another wind screamer there.

Have fun and stay off of that ladder before you get hurt.  ;D

The ladder is awful.  My plan was to stick the new 400 up there and leave it no matter what...the 500, even not doing 500 watts, was at least making some power when it was screaming.  This one is optimized for too low a voltage, though.  We barely had much wind and it did 100+ watts hooked up to a 10~30v grid tie inverter...but that won't cut it for me.

I'm probably going to put something on that tower a bit...bigger...

They say there will be some strong to severe storms throughout the State tomorrow night, so get those screamers ready for it.

I really hope it does not ugly like it did not too long ago.  I lost a bunch of beautiful trees due to the high winds.

Stay safe and healthy buddy.

Mak,

You did stay off of that ladder, right?  ::)

Have not seeing you posting anything lately.
I assume you are just taking it easy and enjoying the crazy Texas weather.

Best regards -

Nope I still climb the stupid ladder...I need to chuck the thing.

I'm basically at a bit of a standstill on all projects...or have been...couldn't get materials for the Heli tower and everything else I just couldn't afford for a bit.  But I've got the footers set up to get my i1500 back in the air and I'm hoping I'll have the stub for teh Heli  done tomorrow and can start planning to get that thing up soon.  In the mean time I've been working on my bike...it's a lot cheaper and more cooperative than wind turbines.

I'll be getting some new videos up soon...I really want to see that Heli going.

Sounds like standing near a raceway.  Some serious vibrations going on there.

The last time I let it run it was going at it just as it was before...doesn't seem to have really hurt it but I'm not letting it run anymore.  I still got a hook on the tail pointing it South.  I'm not having it lol.  I'm going to put something else up on that tower.

That is an Air-X clone - originally pushed on the Blue-Water marine market, self-furling blades, umnn-hmnn...  imagine being trapped on a boat with something just as opinionated fifty miles offshore in a good blow, or anchored in a little hidey hole somewhere and the unattended neighbors boats have wind jennies yakking back and forth -- before some experience built up with them a lay-in at a Marina with a whole bunch of 'em nearby made some unique memories for more than a few folks : )

Now if one was in a Yurt somewhere in Tibet... that and solar would sure beat burning lard or fat for oil light, probably also mimics the mating call of the Tibetan Ox and would keep the milk cows happy... YAK-kitty yak yak hurrrrdeeeeburrrrrrrrrrrburrrrburrrrr

There's nothing self regulating about these blades.  So far all three of my little ones like this have been pretty loud...the only one I've had so far not make a lot of noise, plus actually perform properly, is this one.  That one is super quiet, runs smooth, and makes pretty good power.

Are you turning it into a crossroad motorcycle bike?

Looks like a fun project.

Not true - it is a design feature since these units do not furl.. .

Once the blade tips depart from stable the flutter resonances disrupt the airfoil 'flow' to limit RPM which keeps the hub from being torn apart and/or the tips from going supersonic (which is even louder and scarier).
