Compressed air powered refrigerator, is there such a thing?
« on: March 03, 2020, 03:18:38 PM »
I have an idea about this, but I haven't seen anything doing a Google search. Anybody? Bueller?

Compressed air is great for stored energy.

Here's a bunch of engineers working out the math:
https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=163620

In your case, would you want to modify an air-operated tool motor and a refrigerator compressor to work together?
No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

You can power the pump with anything...including compressed air.  The issue is you will need to compress the air.  You're going to need another pump just to pump air to the compressor to pump coolant to cool the refrigerator.

Look up venturi effect valve.
There are already companies that do this.
Not cheap, not ECO friendly and generally short lived due to high amounts of Compressed Air .
In the Good ole day of waterbeds , they used the same valve to drain the beds :-().

Have Fun

Thanks for entertaining me, and my ideas here! If we consider compressing air to 100psi, and maintaining a tank at ground temp (47F here), then expanding the air from 100psig to 0psig, over a radiator with ethylene glycol, we can move the heat from the radiator out to the environment.
I have to do the calculations for the amount of air needed to carry the heat off. There may be a prohibitive amount of air needed.
The main reason I am interested in this, is because as the solar panel array gets bigger and bigger, I find I have trouble using the excess power.

Do like OperaHouse, use the excess to freeze water in jugs.
Search on this forum for his posts for arduino based fridge and programming.
He's become quite the GURU and doesn't mind helping those who are truly interested.

His posts about his summer cottage solar setup are very informative!

Cheers on having too much power!
