A new 9.6KW PV Static array.
« on: August 01, 2022, 11:18:10 AM »
The local government are bringing in new laws to stop the farmers from leasing their Fields for Solar PV companies.

What the local government says is that good agricultural land will be taken out of production.

As usual i am upsetting the apple cart.

We have just applied for planning permission before the new rules will take effect. As we are a small farm and registered for sheep. Although our new PV array is actually in our garden.

According to the government official the PV is only just off the ground, and the ground underneath these vast PV farms will need weed killer or graveling over etc.

So here is one of our sheep under our new PV Array, its a photo with the new project exactly blended on. As you can see i raise the array by 1.1 meters so the sheep can not get at the PV panels. And we have always made sure none of our ground becomes not usable.

Everything is possible, just give me time.

I passed 15 utility scale solar arrays on Saturday when I ran over south of Minneapolis to pick up some Heliax coaxial cable. Took one route up and a different one back to hit a pizza buffet for an early supper. These were all 2-10 acres in size... all sitting on prime farmland!

What a waste of farm land.  If they keep up this 'green' urban sprawl its really going to cut into the food production.  I don't see that as being green in the end, especially the lack of recycling potential with these panels.

ClockmanFRA;
I see the stone wall behind the panels, how's the wind load on the panels?

Hi Bruce,

Here is my tech drawing.

I have had to use thicker steel, with more support at 1.35m spacing. So a fair few more legs support than normal. I will do diagonal cross bracing to lock the structure up.

Winter winds here are from the South West and as the array is facing due south there is a slight deflection.

I will have to dig 18 holes for the legs and they will be concreted into the ground and soil covered so the grass can grow and our sheep eat the grass under the panels.

There is file size limit for images. This is good for the server using SMF. Its that way for a reason. There is a limit on image size. so and so. I use a 14mb camera even then I have to resize my images.

Haaa!

If you setup a SMF forum you cant even post pictures without a mod...

This is why we have a coder you have no idea how difficult it is to setup this SMF forum. I went thru the evolutionary process years ago. There have been about 4 coders and Flavio has stuck with us which is great.

I have been working on this SMF forum for years. It wasn't easy. We are way ahead of the curve. There has been a lot of work put forward. There is just a bunch of stuff that no one knows about for our application. I have seen forums crash and burn, that's not going to happen to us. there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes that I and Flavio know about.

You cant just decide oh I'm going setup an SMF forum from scratch. Don't forget all this stuff is open source.
Flavio can actually write a mod... He is that good.

Thank you JW.

I allways down size my photos pics to below the 2MB max that this forum says.

In this day and age i believe that Open source forums like Fieldlines are perhaps the only true way of getting unbiased information.

I do post on other World wide forums but to date i only use 4 others as these also have good tech admin support that keep their forums going and up to speed and importantly are not over judgemental.  Retail forms IE, linked to a manufacturer or large retailer are okay but can be blindsided by monetary interest.

Well done JW, and Long live Fieldlines.

Roughly 44 feet by 12 feet in panels.  Wow, that's big.

I re-sized the below drawing below 1mb and it  has posted. I did try early at 2.1mb after Flavio said all fixed, but it would not post.

It would never post at that size, wouldn't post for admins either. It does say there's a 2mb limit :)

BLAST. i have drawn 10 legs and not 9.

Your design intent is for a plurality of legs...  the details are for the engineer to work out.  That's executive thinking for you.
