Electric Aircraft

There's the Pipistrel Alpha Electro that's been flying on battery power for years:

https://www.pipistrel-aircraft.com/products/light-sport-microlight/alpha-electro/#tab-id-2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdfYXlUK6is

Taxi power at 3kW, Takeoff power 60 kW
Takeoff roll <500 feet
Rate of climb >1000 feet per minute
Cruise at 45kW approx. 75knots (86 mph)
Battery capacity 24 kWhr

And now there's Alice from Eviation

https://skiesmag.com/news/eviations-all-electric-alice-aircraft-makes-maiden-flight/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjPO4_oe5h8
250 knot (290 mile) range
260 knot (300 mph) speed
2500 pounds payload capacity

Side note:
Watching the Pipistrel video at time 13:20, it's a windy day on the ground, and the parked aircraft's prop is "windmilling".   :)
Hmmm...
No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

I think that in the next 5 years we are going to see a lot of progress in commuter size all-electric planes.

I would prefer a design with a small fuel generator that could charge the battery in case you have to circle the airport for a long time.

have to circle the airport for a long time

I think it was the P-38 prototype that they decided to set cross country speed record with, but couldn't tell anyone if they did. Except they never notified the airport in advance for landing permission. It never got permission. Ended up running out of fuel and crash landing in a field destroying the only one made.

There is an electric plane with engine assist on takeoff and after that it just runs electric.
