coil Spacing
« on: February 13, 2007, 05:14:11 AM »
I just made my new stator and only after i had pulled the stator from the mold did i notice that either i just overlooked the bad placement of the coils or they slipped when I clamped them down.

is this stator ruined or dose anyone think it will still work ok.

or is it practical to repair it.

in the photo notice the red lines i drew in ms paint. it points out the different spacing between the coils.

It will work, is that epoxy?

Dan usually puts a little fiber glass and tacks it down with superglue ,to hold the coils in place.

other than that how did the rotors come out?

It is fiberglass resin.

I did use the super glue with the fiberglass squares attaching all the coils together

but the resin sets up real quick it only has 15 minutes of work time. so in the hurry to get the top of the mold on i think something moved in the mold. maybe i should have done a dry run first before i poured the resin in the mold just to see if it all stayed in place.

My understanding is that in order for your stator to "go wrong", you need the left leg of one of the three sets of coils to be close to 120 degrees of the right leg of the same set. Your coils are so wide I kinda doubt it.

You won't notice any difference, just carry on and use it.

You have not used much of the winding space, you could have got in about twice as much copper and had much lower resistance, but that is another issue.

Don't worry about the spacing, but don't try that one in delta the circulating currents will be worse than usual.
