Thanks for sharing...

I wonder if it would be less headache to get something along the lines of this 500 watt Grid Tie Inverter System. or a Few of them on Different Circuits in the House. Wouldn't have to worry about a Battery Bank and it would change Monthly Bills...

without spending a lot of time looking into that set up, i doubt it is UL or CE listed, and even if it is, your utility will have a fit if you just plug it into your wall without their consent.  assuming your meter is a digital one...  if, for even one minute out of a day, that GTI puts out more than your drawing, your meter will notice, and i'll assure you, your utility will not be happy about the whole thing!

 Hey Adam,

I did see that it was UL Cert. here is the quote. Also, we have a michanical Meter unit. But either way, it would probably be a good idea to inform DTE that I would be using one of these unit before Purchase and installation. So Thanks.

Don't think I'm allowed to post links here (yet)
But if you go to dm solar's website they sell the same panel for 0,82$/W  Don't know about the shipping costs

Even mechanical electric meters will set a flag if forced backwards. Any plug-in grid tie inverter violates the NEC. The NEC requires all grid-tie inverters to be hard wired at the utility interface, among other things. The UL cert is bogus is there is one. UL will not certify something that violates the NEC.

DM Solars shipping prices are high. According to Amazon they are $80 per shipment plus $5/lb.

They also got low marks for poor packaging. They apparently use FedEx. I've bought large panels that were shipped FedEx and they both came in roughed up, but the panels survived.

The panel spec says UL listed, no mention on the inverter specs so it isn't.

$1.75 per watt, including next day shipping.

The only downside is the low Vmax. They would be fine if doubled up since they come with mc4 connectors.

Lars - thx!  Actually, if you buy from the DM site, they quote higher shipping cost, coming in at $1.20 per watt.  If you buy from Amazon, you get Amazon fulfillment and a lower price.  It looks like the shipment sold out in a week.  I hear they have more coming.

dnix - they did have some early packaging complaints.  From the factory, these panels are packaged two to a box, double-boxed, foam-padded.   On early orders, they were breaking them down and selling re-packaged individual panels.  Bad idea I guess.  This go-round, you could only buy pairs in factory packaging.  My first two pairs arrived last week.  One pair was in unscathed packaging.  The 2nd pair had badly torn outer box, but the padding and inner box was nearly perfect with no visible signs of impact on either the box of the panels.  They arrived UPS Ground.

The pairs are heavy and awkward to handle.

My 3rd and last pair is two days past due.  It will either arrive okay, or not.  We'll see...

Mastiff - you are welcome!  My system will be 870 watt 24v battery backup.  It's primary objective is emergency power.  In normal times, i can use it to run my office or maybe my small electric heater that keeps the garage just above freezing during winter.   Grid tie is not an objective.

Thx!

Okay, thank you for the update. I was wondering over the last few weeks how this system was working out for you...

Hi Everyone.
New here and thought I'd share my experience with DMSolar so far.
I ordered 2 of the 145 watt panels directly from their website on 10/11/12.  $240.00 per pair plus shipping.
The default shipping option was "truck" and was a whopping $780.00 extra.  WOW!
I opted for the "ground" shipping option that was $100.80.  Still a bunch but OK by me.
I provided my mastercard number and placed the order.  Received a confirmation email from them almost immediately with a link to check my order status.  I checked the status daily and saw no updates until I checked yesterday (10/16/12.)  A yellow box was added with text that said "This order has been canceled."  No reason given.  So I checked my mastercard online account and saw the charge had been received and posted 10/16/12.
I called DMSolar's toll-free number and got a kid who said I'd have to talk to "Dave" who was out of the office.  I left my number for him to return my call.  He didn't return my call.  I called again today (10/17/12) and got a girl this time who also told me I had to talk to Dave who was out of the office.  Again left my number and am waiting for a return call.  The status update still says "This order has been canceled" and the charge is still posted to my mastercard.  I'm getting that uneasy feeling but will reserve any ranting until it's obvious I'm getting the run-around.  They may just be out of stock but would like to be told such if that's the case.
I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Mastercard does have a help for this too.
You can call the help line if you get any further run around and let them know the situation of a possible fraud alert.
They'll then issue you a credit and put a hold on it at the same time pending the outcome of them getting in touch with them
I've had to do this a couple times and each time I had my money back, worse case is you would be out $50.00USD.
Best of Luck!
Let's hope they are merely out of stock  :o

I called DMSolar again this morning.  A different girl answered, I filled her in, she took my number again and assured me Dave would call.  Forty five minutes later, Dave called and told me the order wasn't canceled (something about the tracking number being too long to list on the status page, so it labeled the order "canceled," meaning the order was filled and on the way.)  He said Fed Ex would be delivering my panels today.
If so, I'm delighted with the speed of the delivery and am a happy camper.  We'll see what the day brings.

I received a set of 2 of these panels from Amazon in good condition.      At this price I couldn't pass them up to add to my small system.        My question would be why does this set of panels have 2 plugs for each wire instead of the single plus per wire I've used in the past?

Panels arrived  undamaged today (10/18/12) at 6 pm.
I'm very happy with the end result even if the communication was a bit disjointed.
Total cost (including shipping) came to $1.17/watt.

Might rephrase that?

Interesting..... I would have thought USA would be well served with cheap certified panels.

Over here..... even on a remote island I just bought 4.5kw for $4500 delivered..... dollar a watt. I could have gotten them cheaper, but could not see the point  in trying. At a dollar a watt for CEC certified panels, I was happy.

If I tried, i would have gotten them at 90 cents per watt and organize my own transport, but I'm getting lazy...

CEC certified panels have all the right certification, and are available to receive govt rebates. No other panels may.

Strange that it is so easy to get reliable CEC type panels here, and not so easy there on mainland USA.

Note. The homebrew ones I built have now clocked up over 6MWH,  and have remained in mint condition.
I'm calling that a success.

Oztules
I wish I would have read your post before I made 2000 plus watts in by bedroom last year.  I got plenty of bubbles and some traped moisture.
cheers
