saw blade mill and old maytag
« on: January 17, 2005, 07:32:19 AM »
just a shot of the saw mill alt--some one wanted to know how it was set up--

it has two block bearings for the main shaft--mounted to a 2by4...

the tail has steel incerts ..then a bolt runs throu the center--with lock nuts.

this one could have used a little more back angle-for the furling action...

i corrected that --when i put up the old maytag..

and of coarse no wind for days now!!!!!!!!

Hi Hiker

Do you have preformance specs yet? I've started a dual rotor saw blade alt also. Actully I've started 3 disc alts but I've never finished one.

Motor conversions are much faster to build.

I won't use saw blades again. I picked up 8 ten inch blades from the sharpening shop.

They were in there recicle dumpster. They are comercial blades with a 1.75" center hole. These have been to hard to drill and cut.

I've machined 2 speaker end plates as hubs to mount the saw blades. I'm only using 6 blades. 3 per side. This makes each disc slightly over 1/4" thick.

I'm using 12 Lowes ceramics on each disc. I'm winding 9 coils for the stator as per DanB designs.

Don't expect much power from these ceramics. This is just a learning thing and fun.

I'm using speaker baskets for the frame and support. I'll post pics when things progress enough.

hiker thanks for the detail shots. that was me who was curious about your bearing setup. i'm building a vawt . my thought was the mass of a dual brake rotor design would kill any low wind speed rotation a few saw blades are a lot lighter

i havent added the extra stators to my sawblade alt yet...

and thats the old maytag motor..been here for awhile..

would like to change them both over to neo mags..

just a matter of time..................

those ceramics do work --they just need more rpms...

thats most likly why all the old winchargers were geared up...

well hope they work out for you......later.
