Conservation for Multiple Computer Users
« on: March 07, 2009, 01:21:04 AM »
Computers can eat a lot of power. Newer computers are far faster and have much more power than most need. Enter a solution:

Inexpensive software allows up to 10 'stations' to run off one computer. For some, the drawback will be the use of Linux. For the rest of the world that doesn't like the deals coming out of Redmond, WA ...... this is a great deal and idea.

For multiple workstations, this system, hooked the proper low-power computer, should have lower power consumption than 2 laptops.

The firm my wife works for has a similar set-up for energy conservation purposes. The firm has 9 server computers and 40 workstations on each server. Access & system management is done by software from Citrix. After the weekend, my wife is going to see if she can find out how much power the set up saves..

We are in the process of going over to server virtualization here, Citrix too!  See what happens.
