where to buy blades???

Hello folks!

I just wonder is there any store or person I could buy blades from?

I am not good in wood carving, and I decided to buy blades for my next turbines.

But, I am good in polyester and epoxy resin jobs, so I think I'll buy just one of a kind, and make some moulds.

That is' I think, good way to have all blades the same.

You might want to keep quiet about your desire to copy someone else's work. Or be honest about it and form a partnership with someone who has the skills that you are looking for.

Jerry sells some pretty workable small blades, about 4' in diameter.  They're plastic.

I know of another fellow who makes fiberglass reinforced nylon blades, and hubs.  They're about 8' diameter and I think the blades, with hub will be between $150 - $200 for a set of 3.  He's got a neat new hub that's got 4 1/2" holes on 4" dia circle - so they are a pretty good match to Hugh Piggott's plans.  I don't care for the flexibility of them.. they might be a bit loud, but they are really strong, I don't think you can break them.

I have a good freind up here who's been making wooden blades for me.  A 10' set would be around $250 with baltic birch hubs.  I like these a bunch - they're from laminated cedar.  I'm doubtful that replicating one of them from fiberglass would be an improvement... these look neat, they're nice and light and perform really well.

I say go for it. You can make all you want for yourself and nobodys going to care. You could probably even get somebody to supply a blade for the mold. There are plenty of guys who good at making blades.RobC

Jerry also sell blade sets for the Lakota wind turbines these blade are very high tech and I don't think you could even begin to build these for what He can sell them for. These blades will do a 1000 watts +. RobC

What would a set of blanks cost from your friend?  Say I want

to do the draw and finish work myself.

I know where you could get some, right in my back yard (almost)  

Only about $30k each, used slightly damaged (30-06 holes)

FYI for reference, the largest spool near the root of the blade is just shy of 7' tall
