Do a "search the board" and type in "emergency brake problems".

This is a nice set up by "mindchallenger".

Look at his page titled "slip ring connect"

Hope this is helpful.

It's worth asking at a motor rewind type business if they have any scrap stuff that they would let you have a look through.  I scored these...

It's hard to get the scale there but that brass set is around 2.5 to 3 inches diameter if I remember correctly.

I did try to make my own but with a small lathe plus lack of experience and bar-stock I was struggling to make something that would fit over the scaffold tubing I use as a tower.  I did however manage to bore out the set in the picture above to fit.

Yes that type of slip ring and brushgear is used on many of the rotating armature alternators and is probably the best type to use for non rotational slip rings for a wind turbine. I think it works better than the type with brushes spring loaded in a brush box, which are better suited to continuous rotation in one direction.

Given the correct grade of brush, adequate spring pressure and a weatherproof cover those type of rings will work well but they occasionally squeak when yawing about and it can be irritating.

So, when will one of you guys make a magnetically coupled slip-ring ??

A slip-former ?  Trans-Ringer  ?

Should be theoretically do-able...

I've thought asbout it.  But it would lose a lot of power to coil resistance and apply significant side-forces that would have to be dealt with.  So I'm not planning to attempt it.
