Any other EDTA users out there?
« on: February 11, 2005, 11:45:37 PM »
48 hours ago I put about one teaspoon per cell into a 125Ah trolling motor battery. The cells are still bubbling about as much as you would see with a 10A charger but I'm not charging. I followed Trailside's recomendations I'm just not sure what to expect. I put the stuff into a charged battery.

I never did get my hand on any. Seems like it took a long time before it started to work.  Did you disolve it in hot water before adding it (someone said to do that)?

I tried some on a 8D starting battery. Never did bring it back to life. I think one or two cells were shorted. I did see the bubbling you describe and think that is normal.

I bought mine from Trailhead and it came it just a few days so thumbs up to them. My battery is still bubbling a bit. I'm going to wait till it stops and then try to equalize the bat. This battery has lost abbout half it's capacity but works otherwise so I think it will be a good candidate to see if this stuff works.

I forgot to mention that I did disolve it in water. 6 teaspoons in about 9oz of slightly warm distilled water. I removed 1.5oz of acid from each cell. I can't wait to get it on a charger.

I've seen in other postings and a little googling that EDTA is used in the brewing industry and in homeopathic medicine.

Sooo, I stopped at a UBrew today, but they have never heard of it.

Same goes for the pharmacy in the Superstore.

Both places probably now think I got a meth or lsd lab.

Applies to poor old vintage motorcycylist too. One way some

have gotten home on shorted battery was dump, filter and save

the fluid then knock out sediments in cells, refill and go.

Not so easy to do to homestead scale banks. I've also heard of

pretreatment with small amount as preventive.
