Got 3 free, what are they worth?
« on: April 09, 2006, 10:40:24 PM »
I was out riding my e trike and seen a large battery on the curb so I stoped to get it, I was going to take it to the salvage if it was no good but it turned out to be in good shape so I kept it, the guy also gave me a whole pile of 35 amp hour SLA's, but in the middle of the pile is what I think I could probably say was the best thing there 3 of these

they all work just wouldnt do what was needed at that location, they came from the power supplys for the cable system, he gave them all to me to haul of for free, Im just wondering about what they are worth. I may sell 2 of them and just keep 1.

Im in Oklahoma City, and I'm sure shiping would be alot as they are very heavy. I'm not sure I'd even want to take them and try and ship them, Im really just interedted in finding out what they are worth.

This are very old 12 Vdc to 115 VAC MSW inverter.

Heavy because they are supposed to use large 60 HZ transformer and a bunchh of switching power transistors in parallel and NOT MosFets.

Think for how much you can, at the present time, buy a 1200 watts inverter from Harbor Freight.

I think they still make inverters along these lines (maybe not triplite not sure) and from what I understand they have the advantage of taking higher surges for longer periods of time due to the time required to heat up all the iron.  I could have a misconception there - but my guess is they're nice things but not worth a whole lot.  Aren't the Trace DR series of inverters similar?

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

One word; REDUNDANCY.

Use one, keep 2 spare. Murphy's law says soon as you sell or give away 2 spares, first machine will die.

I have one and love it.

We use it for bigger tools. Seems about bullet proof. Had it a few years.

Easy to get and change fuses, though I never needed to. Easy and cheap to make a remote switch.

I don't think mine is very old. Thought it was originally bought for Y2K.

When I bought mine, they were still listed at some suppliers for around $450!

Probably not the highest efficiency, but perfect for my high power occasional loads.

Looks like it could use the cover removed and the dust blown out.
