LT3505 DC-DC Step-Down Converter by Linear
« on: October 01, 2006, 08:12:06 AM »
Hi,

I am not in the business of endorsing products on this forum BUT found the following at

http://www.linear.com

and look for LT3505 built by Linear Technology.

Input (VDC)             Freq.            Output (VDC)

  1. to 36                2.2MHz            3.3
  2. 6 to 25              1.2 MHz           1.8
  3. 2 to 36              750kHz            3.3
  4. 5 to 36             1 MHz             12, 1A if vin>16.5V, 1.1A if vin>20.5V

The Amperages are only a tad more than 1 Amp. The "Typical Applications" pages 21 and 22 of the product listing (PDF)list the additional caps, etc. needed to build the complete DC to DC converter.

With my little knowledge of electronics I suspect that such a chip has a great input voltage range and therefore can be used where a Zener is out of range.

This info is for those of you who know electronics better than I do and may have missed such a product announcement. The input voltage range is certainly of interest to us "windy" folks.

Boost converters from 5 volts to 28 at 60 amps

and 28 volts to 5 volts at 20 amps

Not sure if this helps anyone.

Datel (C&D Technologies?), step-down switcher, 78xxSR series, TO-220 package (mostly), complete and ready to use.  3.3, 5.0 or 12.0V.  400 and 500ma(12V).  US$10.

I never used one, but it sounds good.
