Sorry bout the post above. Its the only way I know to coment without getting snubed by the coment thingy.

I bought this tower from an old radio amature. It was originally 70 ft free standing. I've got 40 ft of it. This 40 ft part has been up 12 years. It was originaly built in the 70s.

The first pix show the small platform and crankup system. The old guy had a monster beem antenna with a rotor on this thing.

It originaly had a 10ft saquare 4ft deep cement base. My base is only 4ft square and 28" deep.

You can see however I've anchored it to my shop at the first 10ft mark. The shop is made of 6X6 ruff cut treated timbers so its very strong. This tower ain't goin nowere.

The crankup platform has another mast support 4 ft above the lower platform. This thing is awsome. I'll be able to rais and lower my genny any time and never leave the ground.

You just crank it up to the top, you'll hear a click then back off a little and its locked at the top. To bring it down you just crank a little, there another click then just uncrank it down.

I tested its lifting ability. I was standinding on the platform and lifting myself up, 225 lbs.

Just mounted a 22" X 36" X 6" metal junction box on the shop wall next to the tower. No pics on that yet.

Inside the box I've mounted a row of twelve 25 amp fullwave bridges on a large heatsink. There is also fusing and gold distrobution blocks.

A frend gave me 200ft of 2ga. X 4 power cable. Its like a giant extension cord.  This runs from this box to the battery bank at the other end of the shop. A distance of 60 ft. This is a 48 volt system so I'm thinking the doubled up 2 ga. is plenty.

Hi hiker

Actully its for a group of gennys. At one time I had 8 gennys flying at this location.

Right now I have 13 flying at my store.

The panel box was large enough to acomidate a bunch of stuff so I figure I load it up with lots of goodys so I can add more gennys later.

This makes add ons or changes much easyer.

Jerry;

WooHoo!

I hit 35 feet today. Pictures maybe later. Working up there in the wind and sun did me in after an hour. One step at a time. Next step is to get a deck laid on the next section after I install the brace rods which needs a bit of skull sweat to figure out since it is not exactly "stock" anymore.

All the fun I can handle.

Cheers.

Hi Lexx.

If that question was directed to me. No i'm on a dead end country road. Its not even a public road.

All my neighbors and I are on 1 to 4 acre lots. We're 1/4 mile from blacltop.

No noise from my blades. I took my SW-403 to my retail store in the industrial park. Nobody cares about the noisy 403 there. My neighbors hated it here at home.

Tom great job. I know its not a race but your way ahead of me. I'm  following your tower project with great antispation and intrest. I wish I were there to lend a hand. So please keep us updated.

You may have seen pics of a pine tree in my back yard. It still has 1ft stub limes on it. I'm hoping to cut all those of wed. and hang a GE ECM genny on it. Thay same day a freind is bringing over a boom truck with a buket to put the other 2 sections on the 40ft crankup tower.

There is also a 35ft pole next to the tower. I'm hopping to install a Garbogen genny on that one. One thing for sure it will be a busy day.

I'll get more pics a the projects progress.

Hi Dominic.

This crankup tower will allow fast genny swaping with ease. I know your working with a F&P.

I have one also. I hope to try it out plus many other types also. I've not built a working disc alt/genny yet. I've started a couple but never finished.

This tower will make it easy to try those also.  I'll be trying my plastic blades on the F&P. They've handled some fair amounts of cogging on motor conversions so I think they work on the F&P.

I'll build a 60" 3 blade for it. Got to figure a coil arangment on that though.

May not happin for a while though cause I'm working on a 1hp 6 pole 120 volt ac motor conversion. I'm using some comercial 7ft carbon fiber blades on that one.
