32 pole

Hi All,

Finally did some coil test with both the rotors in place after a few minor setbacks,( due to magentic pull of the mag's ) But first I had to make a test stand, dont have a current pic of the stand as of yet.

Although not all completed yet I still did the coil testing.

The rotors how have a total length of 3x1x.05 neo 40's

RPM was determined with a laser tact.

Test coil 150 turns 16 gage. coil center hole the same size as the mags,

  1. rpm 6v
  2. rpm 8v
  3. rpm 10v
  4. rpm 12 v

voltage open ac no load.

Need a cuttin of around 25 to 30 rpm.

Have a 24 v battery bank, could use the axcess for hot water heat.

Decisions, Decisions.

How would you wire this thing up ?    HighVoltage maybe ?

Why such a low cut in?

You could get more out put by wiring it as a 4 phase. That would be 6 coils in series for each phase, at 30 RPM that would be 48 volts per phase.

looks like your going to need a transformer just to keep it down to charging voltage..

why the light wire and so many turns? are you going to use 480 volt heating elemnts?

the stator will end up being a real heater with that wire and mags..

you must have some plan for that setup..for 12v charging i would go with 2 in hand #14 and maybe 55 turns -more or less..just my opinon..looks great other wise..

In addition to trading voltage/current by changing the number of turns and wire size of each coil:

Since you have 24 coils, i.e. 8 per phase, you could bring out the individual coil wires rather than connecting them inside the potting.

Then you could connect them:

 - In series (for 8x the one-coil voltage, 1x the one-coil current)

 - In two parallel sets of four coils in series (4x voltage 2x current)

 - In four parallel sets of two coils in series (2x voltage 4x current) or

 - All eight in parallel (1x voltage 8x current).

And of course hook the resulting phases in wye or delta for a further tweak.

And if you didn't like the voltage or cutin speed, re-tweak them.  B-)

Vawt's  Uh Oh theres that word again.

It was just a test coil, to see how many turns I could get into the given space, and the output it would  produced. only wire I had at the time.

Ungrounded LR,

Ideas, thats what I love about this board !

sweet, what a great test rig! if your going to run it on the ground,it will be practical/convienient to keep the wires ends out of the stator as ungrounded suggests you will be able to  change configuaration at will.
carry on zapmk!

Question,

I like the idea of bringing all the coil wires out of the stator, But first, I think I need to determined what gage wire and numbers of turns to put in the stator.

This machine so petty close to Hughs Nirvana alt, just with two more coils prephase

I think the his newer verson used 76 turns of 14 gage (1.6mm ) with the 3inch long mags

I all ready know all many turn of 16 gage I can get in the space making the center hold the size of the mag, So Iam thinking 75 turns of 13 gage ? does this seem right ? But this alt also is going to be turning half the speed of his prop.

Any suggestions, and or other comments would be greatly appreciated.
