Anemometer

I'm building an  Anemometer

And I've recieved my cup n hub setup from our hosts

My bike computer info sheet

"Set-up" instructions states

that "Multiply the wheel dia in millimeters

by 3.1416 to determine the wheel factor"

I'm getting funny numbers here so bear with me

Hub dia = 1.536"

1. 536 X 2.54 = 3.9014
   
3. 9014 X 10 = 39.0144
   
39. 0144 X 3.1416 = 122.5676
    
    

?

In the sheet they have numbers that are four digets long

AKA: 1596, 2124, 2237 ,(20", 26.6" 28")

Has anybody else done one of these?

i get 124 , but i rounded 1mm to 0.039 "

I've put 123 in the bike computer

So far nothing

kind of like putting up a mill

Not enough wind to test yet

might have to take it for a ride

Did extend the wire, used a 25' phone cord and a phone

cord coupler. Only used the red n black wires, saved the

yellow n green for maybe something else, (was thinking power to the computer

till I realized it would be down n easy to add power to. LOL)

Found a old computer part with bearing that press fit inside of the hub, had to switch around the cups because it would un-screw the mounting screw and fall down, lol.

Now it should just tighten it up.

I've been BAD !!!

I re-read the otherpower

"An Easier Homemade Anemometer

Built using a digital bicycle speedometer"

And found out about the calibration-

They didn't just do the math like I did and wonder why?

They started with a much larger number for the wheel size

Mine has yet to show more than a mile per hour wind speed.

I used

Hub dia. = 1.536"

X 2.54 = 3.9014

X 10 = 39.0144

X 3.1416 = 122.5676.

Rounded up to 123

Darn small wheel size

They used 1320

And test with moving car from there. LOL

I'll post more after more testing
