Measure RPM with Cadence

Just thought I would pass this on with the new cycling computer's that have Cadence built in. what it does it measures your pedal RPM's, so anyone want a easy digital RPM read out for there turbine here is is. About 20 bucks

 Hi Harrie...The cadence is the rpm of the crankset (big gear with pedals) and uses a small magnetic pickup (some are wireless transponders) mounted to the frame and a small magnet attached to the crankset, so the two pass in close proximity every rev. The speedo works the same way, and is adjustable for wheel size, and calculates km/h per rpm for a given wheel size.

 Wayne, have you tested this unit to see if it has a max cadence rpm?

I have only had it up to 200 RPM but tonight will spin it up too the max on my lathe, good question. So far I really like mine for testing, nice and easy

On my belt driven Lathe did a test

Lathe Setting        Computer

600.                    640 RPM
     
130.                    146 RPM
     
     

So I think it would read up to 999, I didn't want to magnet to fly off but should be no problem.

Another option if cadence is too low.

Set it to Km/H. Set the wheel circumference to 166.7cm.

The Km/H is multiplied by 10 to get the RPMs.

ie: 32.8 Km/H on the speedometer is 328 RPMs.

(quick math, but I think thats right)

CatEye is a higher end brand, Mity8 is one of their lower cost units. This model is listed as 4Km/H min, 105Km/H max.  So it should read from 40 to 1050 RPM.

I stretched the wire to 30+ feet on a Mity8 and it worked fine as a speedometer.
