32in Radial alt

 Ive been choppin away at the trees since i posted that due to everyone telling me not to give in(thanks all)Cut my tower height down to 20ft.LOL

 The poles at this point arent in concrete.Imagine the power it takes to do that bein 6ft inground though.

 2 blades is one reason i think and the blades are off weight.Just wanted to see if it would work.

 For some reason i love that wheel and plan on making 1 coil for it tomorrow to check thoughts.

 Should be a productive summer.

 Cant believe why i dont just give up.Challenges challenge me i guess.

Vawtman,

To give this a go without spending hundreds on magnets you might consider getting a bunch of small magnets.  For $30 or so you could get 50 3/8" to 1/2" diameter magnets.  This would be enough to do some tests with a "full wheel" as it were.  This would also be a good place to use a boat-load of hard drive magnets for testing.

not sure what you have to work with , but i would make the slot 2 inches long by 0.25  inches wide ,by 0.25 inches deep, you could probably go a little wider if you had to , up to you..

and get a small paint brush , and some resin to brush on the coil as you wind it.

that way it will stay put when it cures

make a few turns dab a little resin on the coil , repeat till done

a little crayon on the fixture keeps resin from sticking to it.a small taper wouldnt hurt either .

you may not want to make the coil 1/2 inch deep , in fact i would start with a test coil about 1/4 inch deep ,

if you make the legs of the coil around .9 inches plus or minus a little ..

i made the fixture the length it is because as the wire wraps around the ends will bunch up and probably force your fixture apart

 I probably would have done just has you say, but has it turns out i only need 12 more to get to Willibs design.

 Ill probably just jb weld them in place because i know i can remove them if for some reason it fails.Na we wont allow it to fail)LOL.They really like to stick to it, without anything its hard to remove them.

 Need to redo her(tower)legs to fit the beast for testing also.

 Back to the coil.

 Got the afternoon off and its a nice day.

Thats the way it worked out.

its up to you ultimately ,so if you want to go with a slot of 1/2 Inch by 2 inches

just remember the more copper that you present to the magnetic field the better.



 360/45 = 8 degrees , so tour coils cant span more than 8 degrees

not sure if i mentioned it , but i did imply that i would wind the coils with a flat fixture , not curved , because at the perimeter of a 32 inch dia wheel , 33 inches with the mags installed , a flat coil should not be a problem.

looks a tad more than 1/2 inch wide too...

my thoughts on it are , it looks fine if you want to limit your output to 1/4 of what it could be.

i linearized  a standard three phase machine , on the right.

the magnet spacing is 360 degrees/ 60 magnets = one every 6 degrees.

do you see the similarity between the two

i've left out the hole in the coils on the right one

if Vman makes the coil legs about .9 inches , and keeps the number of turns low , say 50 turns ,ie a thin coil

we need a test coil to nail down the number of turns though

I have a couple of wheels like that only

a little smaller 24 in".no mag's though.

 Build it i want to see how it works.

Well Vawtman, I'm not smart enough to know not to build it, but I kinda figure that Flux is. It may be that you should shoot for high voltage with lots of turns. That awp puts out 240v open circuit at about 150 rpm (very technicakl, sat it on the floor and turned it by hand, and counted the seconds and guessed the rest) It used elcheapo ferrites (30) and has only 14" stator. 90 coils. So I figure you may make some power... but Flux's words are ringing in my ears and that gives me cause to try a cheap mock up of some kind, I haven't seen this fellow wrong on many or come to think of it any occasions...except with jerry's rig. and that was marginal.

but all the best as always, and will follow your exploits with much interest.
