Yet Another Solar Tracker
« on: October 23, 2007, 03:08:31 AM »
Built this back about last Xmas; thought it was time I put it in my diary.

Similar to RedRok's led3x

http://www.redrok.com/led3xassm.htm#led3xc3

Read his article for an explanation of the 2 gated oscillators U1D & U1C.

I couldn't obtain the IR2184's locally except in smd, hence the redesign using my favourite components, a 4093 and too many diodes.

Although drawn for 24 volt operation, conversion to 12 volts should be easy. Delete the 2 x 12 volt zeners D12 & D13, and the regulator comprising Q9 and associated components.

I tested it by taping the board to the gearbox output shaft of a geared head coin hopper motor I obtained from Oatley electronics. Over the course of the day it tracked the sun perfectly.

Here's the circuit in pdf format;

and a picture of the board

The pcb layout was done with Protel autotrax for dos. Email me if you want a copy.

Nice circuit and nice build.... all I need now is panels and tracker.

I particularly like the h bridge, mine would have been less elegant.

Nice work.
