Lenz Turbine 2 Blade
« on: November 29, 2007, 04:21:04 PM »
Hi All

About year ago my F/P 3 blade got trashed, so I took the 2 blades and rebuilt another one. It has a little hard time starting up and since its been up no real wind. When I spin the shaft by hand I get about 7-8 volts D.C. I thinks its about 120rpms maybe.. I have see it spin up but no power yet. I used #18 gauge wire and wedge magnets.

Looks good Wayne!  I've tested the 2 blade unit in my wind tunnel and they work fairly well with the exception of a "sticky" spot.  When the wings are 90* to the wind they'll tend to bobble back and forth and resist starting until a gust upsets the balance to set it into motion.  Once its running it will actually achieve a higher rpm than the 3 blade unit although the overall efficiency seems about the same or just a tad lower.

I don't remember who, I believe a member here, had built a large 2 bladed unit and didn't seem have any problem with it starting.  It was mounted close to the ground with lots of trees around so the swirling air was probably setting it out of balance enough to get it started.

A simple fix to the small one not starting would be 2 flat plates mounted on the center rotor angled in the direction to assist rotation.  This would create a small rotational torque to overcome the sticky spot, the size would depend on how low of winds you want it to start in.

Yet another project I'm working on...cutting

the blade supports with my first bandsaw I've

ever had in my life got it for my 3yr. old

Granddaughter (the family joke) anyway I drew the

circle then the straight sides ....so proud of

how nice I was sawing the curve and sawed about

300 degrees instead of about 180....I don't

suppose anyone has ever done anything like this?

   LOL !
