Good Morning and Happy New Year
The year two thousand and eight is upon us. What will we make of it? You know it's strange that as this year closes, I did not write an anthology. As December progressed, I wondered about this on a few occasions. Indeed, I mentioned a reluctance to wish a happy new year. Sure, I hope the new year treats you well. On a personal side, I can't imagine my life being much better, or actually whether I deserve better. From what I have seen and heard, too many Americans are living lives of lies. How can it get any better than that for them? Living in La La Land is a tough act to follow. Corporations are turning profits on environmental issues, making consumer awareness an absurdity. Human populations are swelling, unabated by wars inspired by religious extremism. Starvation and poverty are abetted by the greed of a few. These with a general lack of health care do not seem to stop the increasing overpopulation of the planet.
Let's celebrate.
First let's make new years resolutions and stick with them.
No more wars, and certainly no more invasions of foreign lands. Only self defense is acceptable, but we need to see an invading army, before I sign up. End all covert operations worldwide.
Focus American energy on helping people. Improve health care for everyone. Help the poor help themselves. Welcome our neighbors into this country. Basically make love not war. Remove the concept of hate from our lives. Life is what it is. Talking $#|+ about people doesn't help anything.
Try not to be self centered.
Do good deeds every day.
Take responsibility for our family's energy consumption.
Learn about sustainability.
These shouldn't need to be new year resolutions.
As you already know I don't have a lot of faith in humanity as a whole to resolve or accept reality before it is too late. So Happy New Year! The world is going to hell in a hand basket. The least we can do it try to help and attempt to learn how not to be part of the demise of civilization.
Well well well. Where do I go from there?
Actually this has been a wonderful weekend. Our solar powered Internet relay on the Crestone has been recharged by two beautiful sunshine filled days. Thanks to a gift from Nell's sister Susan and husband Ron for the gift of Season Four of HBO's The Wire we spent several hours in front of the television watching this in depth look at humanity from the seedier side of Baltimore. This season the writers look at inner city school systems. We highly recommend The Wire. This show is unlike anything I have ever seen on TV. These guys are not selling soap. Watch it. From all accounts the story which is shot and developed on the streets of Baltimore portrays a vivid and accurate picture of politics and urban crime through people, well... actors, but some of the best actors we have seen in television or Hollywood.
Appropriate tag line for Brian?
A positive outlook may not always solve all of my problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it all worthwhile.
There it is.
