BMN Happy friggin New Year
« on: January 01, 2008, 03:32:07 AM »
December 31st 2007

Good Morning and Happy New Year

The year two thousand and eight is upon us. What will we make of it? You know it's strange that as this year closes, I did not write an anthology. As December progressed, I wondered about this on a few occasions. Indeed, I mentioned a reluctance to wish a happy new year. Sure, I hope the new year treats you well. On a personal side, I can't imagine my life being much better, or actually whether I deserve better. From what I have seen and heard, too many Americans are living lives of lies. How can it get any better than that for them? Living in La La Land is a tough act to follow. Corporations are turning profits on environmental issues, making consumer awareness an absurdity. Human populations are swelling, unabated by wars inspired by religious extremism. Starvation and poverty are abetted by the greed of a few. These with a general lack of health care do not seem to stop the increasing overpopulation of the planet.

Let's celebrate.

First let's make new years resolutions and stick with them.

No more wars, and certainly no more invasions of foreign lands. Only self defense is acceptable, but we need to see an invading army, before I sign up. End all covert operations worldwide.

Focus American energy on helping people. Improve health care for everyone. Help the poor help themselves. Welcome our neighbors into this country. Basically make love not war. Remove the concept of hate from our lives. Life is what it is. Talking $#|+ about people doesn't help anything.

Try not to be self centered.

Do good deeds every day.

Take responsibility for our family's energy consumption.

Learn about sustainability.

These shouldn't need to be new year resolutions.

As you already know I don't have a lot of faith in humanity as a whole to resolve or accept reality before it is too late. So Happy New Year! The world is going to hell in a hand basket. The least we can do it try to help and attempt to learn how not to be part of the demise of civilization.

Well well well. Where do I go from there?

Actually this has been a wonderful weekend. Our solar powered Internet relay on the Crestone has been recharged by two beautiful sunshine filled days. Thanks to a gift from Nell's sister Susan and husband Ron for the gift of Season Four of HBO's The Wire we spent several hours in front of the television watching this in depth look at humanity from the seedier side of Baltimore. This season the writers look at inner city school systems. We highly recommend The Wire. This show is unlike anything I have ever seen on TV. These guys are not selling soap. Watch it. From all accounts the story which is shot and developed on the streets of Baltimore portrays a vivid and accurate picture of politics and urban crime through people, well... actors, but some of the best actors we have seen in television or Hollywood.

Appropriate tag line for Brian?

A positive outlook may not always solve all of my problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it all worthwhile.

There it is.

Boss;

Of all the game I have eaten [a LOT] Elk was the finest followed close by the moose.

Some of those are close enough to harvest with a revolver. I am afraid I could resist anything but temptation there.

Cheers.

This year we are applying for a land owners permit for an elk or two. We just need to prove they are eating our pasture and breaking down our fences. I think this image goes a long way toward proving these things. The elk a gigantic,in one image you can see the top barbed wire strand under their bellies. They don't even bother jumping over.

Sure, but that's the neighbor's place. Our family has lived in northern New Mexico since 1971

I don't feel well this morning, so it is easier to post images than type

Here is one of Patrick Swayze's bison in our yard this Summer, with my dad in the window.

The bison were awesome to watch, so primal, mom didn't like them. She's a scaredee-cat

I wanted to tell Swayze to come over and mix drinks for our campout party in repayment for the demolished fences from their visit.

Some will see a glass half empty, and others will see it as half full.

Looking throughout history, take a ratio of the worlds population at war and not.

I think today is the best it has ever been. So what is your beef?

This is not heaven, its the real world. With real people, some good and not so good.

"As you already know I don't have a lot of faith in humanity"

I find people beliefs are a reflection of themselves. Why do you have so little faith in yourself?

I use 1.5MwHr a month. I have no problem with doing so. I pay my bills on time.

Do you think I stealing something from someone else?

The world operates on a FREE market, there is not a gun pointed at any body's head to sell what I buy.

I also don't believe I'm stealing from future generations using oil today. God put the oil here to get us going, we now have the awareness and technology to start changing. It will happen, most people don't like change so there will be resistance.

What makes it worst is people telling others we MUST use less, that is also another lie.

When the sun shines it brings 1kw per square meter. My property has more meters of sun than I could ever use, its not even as big as yours.

Myself I'm thrilled with the advances of our civilization in this last century.

I see no better time to be alive then today, future generations will feel the same about theirs.

Have fun,

Scott.

You sure about this? You mustn't be Iranian.

Whomp what a cut.

Conversely, most people think I have too much faith in myself.

If fact I don't think the one thing has anything to do with the other.

In every civilization in history a few people are movers and shakers, some good, some evil, the rest are cattle. Does this make our era better or worse than any era in history. How could we know how the average man lived, say 2000 years ago? They may have been happy as larks, unknowing what the serfdom 100 miles distant was like. This is one of the reasons many of us live in remote locations.

I don't know where this came from.  Perhaps someone else wrote it.

Personally I believe the Utility companies will always fleece the lower class just a few dollars more than we can afford. But here is where my lack of faith comes in. Is it the poor family's fault they can not afford to pay for a new renewable energy system for their home? Most can not even afford to seal their doors and windows.

But you are right, there is no actual gun involved, just the cold hard economics of the free market.
