Welcome to a new week of Brian's Morning Newsletter. March 17th 2008
Good morning.
>From the accounts I am reading this morning it seems like this week the $#|+ hits the fan for our economy. The banking systems, or at least the big banks seem to have finagled themselves into a corner that no amount of borrowed money can get them out of. A prime example on a personal level, is a friend I visited this weekend who recently sold his house. He said that he sold it for less than the appraised value which the government had been taxing him for the entire mortgage period. Think about what this means. It seems to me that it parallels what is happening in the financial markets pretty well. Obviously, I'm no financial wizard, nevertheless if what I am hearing is even partially true: There is a group of investment bankers that sold out their countrymen for quick profits, and this is what started the housing bubble to collapse, then I think the people who are losing their homes should be allowed to lynch these bastards. There should be a place on our IRS forms to describe not only where money came from; "If others suffered because of listed profits." What I'm saying is duping low income families out of a place to live should be a crime. Let's free all the people in prisons convicted of victim-less crimes and replace them with soulless bankers.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg. I agree with James Kunstler this morning that by bankrupting the country Bush and his ilk will bring the energy crisis to a head far before Peak Oil advocates were predicting. Think about this, if the dollar isn't worth the paper it is printed on and the United States no longer has a viable global services to offer, then oil producing nations will sell their remaining oil to countries that do produce a product, like China for instance. Certainly the United States' strong-arm tactics won't be influencing or more importantly intimidating the rest of the world like we used to. People are saying the inevitable depression is likely to be as bad as the 1920s depression. On the bright side we will finally be forced out of the Middle East with a depression here at home, because George Bush is doing everything in his power to bankrupt our government.
As you may know I finished the book, "World Made by Hand," in which James Kunstler draws a very bleak future in this country with the loss of the petroleum to which we have become addicted. It isn't that we ran out of oil all of a sudden and people wished they had listened to urban planners like Kunstler before it was too late. The very lifestyle for which Americans have been envied the world over has brought this crisis to a apex ahead of its time. Peak oil and Global warming are real, and the more excuses and arguing we do about these issues the quicker we'll see the results. Absolutely Americans who drive a hundred miles per day to work have everything to lose and nothing to gain by accepting any truth about an energy crisis. We have to work to earn a living. It's an ugly slimy topic and people with high paying jobs do not want to discuss it, especially with low income people who will be affected even greater.
The fact remains that cheap oil is running low, and what remains is going to skyrocket in price. People are going to get more serious about getting the last of the fuel. Now, matters are made worse because we let bankers and billionaires like the Bush's and Rockefeller's ruin the value of the dollar again. There were some far fetched notions in Kunstler's work of fiction. I think he was right on when he portrayed people in the future buying fresh food for $1000.00 per sackful. I mean, Christ this is already happening here. If you are unlucky enough to work for minimum wage in this country you already know your paycheck isn't enough to buy food, and heat your home, let alone pay $4.00 per gallon for gasoline. I had thought that only the wealthy would be driving in the next few years, further dividing the classes here in America. We may have a new crude awakening as the bankers proven to the rest of the world that the US dollar will soon not be able to buy a tank of gas for even a Hummer.
Yeah folks, remember the gas lines in the 70s? Now the investment bankers have their sights set on energy futures. Whoa boy, it won't take them long to milk every last dime from our addiction to driving. So you see, it isn't just the Saudis spending our gas dollars on lavish appointments, it is our own greedy countrymen inflating the price of fuel just like they did to the price of our homes. Yeah capitalism is working real well for them, but it is screwing everyone out of house and home. Again, America has become a country of worthless money launderers. Why would the rest of the world need to sell us anything and what will we pay for it with? We seem to be making our once proud nation obsolete on a global scale.
That's all folks!
Sincerely,
Brian Rodgers
