dc motor [treadmill]

found this at my local thrift store--50 cents..

no name tag on it---2400 rpm..1hp--9amp--90v.

its extra heavy dudy--big fat and wide bruches as well

wound with some fat wire..cant belive its only rated at 9 amps..

this thing is heavy--the casing is made from thick steel..

super hard to turn when shorted out..

 when hooked to my pedgen it lites up a 50watt bulb at a really slow rpm...

should make for a good windgen--its not your average treadmill motor!!!!!!

  anyone with info on this motor??????

Nice one for 50 cents...I would have went as

high as a $1 for it...kinda reminds me of a

Leeson ?? ...long and with that stamped metal base.


If that came off of a treadmill ...it must have

been a high quality one.


I've heard of a Leeson with somewhat similar rating

used for a windmill with a 6 foot blade...

 2400 rpm at 90 volts puts the motor coming up short for 12 volt charging in normal winds .It may have to be paired  up with another turbine that needs a little boost or tends to buck hard in light winds

The motor is by Pacific Scientific.  It should be a fairly good 12V generator with cut-in in the 350 rpm range, which is comparable with the Ameteks.  The windings are rated for 180 degrees C.

I used to repair MOTOR CONTROLLERS for treadmills.  that looks

like a motor off an EXPENSIVE treadmill, not a cheap junk one.  The

treadmill equipment I worked on was quality stuff.  

During testing, one test was we JAMMED the motor with a broomstick

to see if the motor controller would do an auto-shutdown.  The controller

powers the motor by  PULSES of dc to the motor.  The WIDER the pulse, the faster the

motor goes. sorry, i dont know anything about how well such a motor would

work on a wind generator.

thanks for all the info .......

and it did come off of a quality treadmill--thing was built like a tank....

i will grab the electronics off of it as well..

 thrift shop throws out a lot of good material--if it dosent sell in a few days

it goes out to the 50cent pile  :}

 just a update--my dads old lathe was made in 47?[thats the year he bought it]--not 62 as i posted earlier..

he took a trip up here and stayed a week--lots of stories-dang i didnt tape record..

every picture tells a story--lots of those.......later.
