scematic software for control panel drawing
« on: March 06, 2008, 04:23:36 PM »
Hello all,

does anyone know good softwares to create electric control panel drawings?

I am looking for something with the "clever connector" feature (ie connectors follow boxes when these boxes are moved), since a control panel for 2 turbines and 1 set of PV pannels is quite complicated...

MS Visio does not seem to make it, and I cannot buy expensive CAD software. Has anyone tried Schematic, by dotsoftware, for example?

Thank you

I wonder if XC (XCircuit) could be made to do what you want?

It is free, and I use it for doing ordinary circuit diagrams, but it's way more clever than that.

Dan uses Dancad: http://www.fieldlines.com/story/2003/9/11/84741/6758

I use GhettoCAD v.0.99: http://www.anotherpower.com/gallery/album92/spotwelder_2

Not what you were looking and asking for, but it's Cheap and Easy (TM). My designs usually evolve during a few revisions: the first draft looks like a mess with criss-cross wires, the final version is drawn when the design is finished. By then I know how much place I need on the paper sheet for each module/component, so no need to do a lot of moving/redrawing/erasing etc. anymore. Haven't lost any circuit designs after a HD crash. Doesn't use any electrons either, so very RE ?

Just what works for me. My brain being the software, the pen and paper (and occasional eraser) being the tools. Saves a steep learning curve with new CAD software as well. Easy to add new components to the component library too (hehehe). Not high-tech though.

But I understand many people use EagleCAD. It appears to be free too. Have never used it or downloaded it myself though, so not sure if it does what you require (moving with elastic lines). You might want to check it out nevertheless:
