can i get 12 volts with 2 in series?

I have two 12 volts wired in series (one neg to the other pos)  I would also like to hook in a 12 volt appliance to this battery pack.  can I just use one of the pos and neg of one in the series to get 12 volts.  thanks tom

If you're just going to use 12v and not 24v then wire them in parallel, positive to positive and negative to negative. It will double the Ah and keep the voltage at 12v.


Tapping into one 12v battery from a 24v series string will just damage it because you'll be discharging it lower than the other and it will never get fully charged properly.
