Delta, star, jerry, and Wye. I understand Delta and Star, but what is Jerry and Wye.

Wye (Y) is star. Mesh is delta.

Jerry is just a convenient name for something that otherwise doesn't seem to have one.

It is the case where you rectify each phase of a polyphase supply with a single phase bridge rectifier and parallel the dc connections. Has some similarities to delta but has less harmonic problems below cut in and may work better than delta above cut in. Only exists with rectified loads. Delta doesn't work properly with loads that generate harmonics, these circulate within the closed winding causing losses. With star the 3rd harmonic is cancelled as long as you don't connect to the neutral ( star point).

Oh sorry, that graphic is pretty big, I meant to reduce it before posting.

The GIF file is only 39k, but it really sprawls across the screen.

If my post isn't zapped by this evening, I'll try to get a better size uploaded.

No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

There are several reasons.  For one, if your mill is producing, say 10 Amps, the voltage drop due to resistance in 6 wires is less then it is in 3 wires.  On the other hand you could use smaller wires, by about 2 gauges.  Second, each leg of the stator can produce voltage and current in phase with each other (more or less), instead of having phase A increasing EMF when phase B is going the other way.  So in Jerry you don't have a "vector-sum" of current going through two legs at any particular moment.  Thirdly, the Delta connection has harmonic frequencies that waste energy, but they are not important in Star and impossible in Jerry.

I'm sure Mr. Jerry can suggest some more advantages himself; those are just the ones that come to mind right now.

Mr. Jerry? and what would the rectifier look like?

Thanks for the info.

For me and my little conversions, Jerry reduces the voltage and resistance.

Both too much voltage and too much resistance usually comes with small motor conversions that have not been rewound with new coils.
