15' wind turbine questions
« on: February 12, 2009, 12:40:21 AM »
I am getting ready to build my first wind alternator based on The Evolution Site. From looking at DanB winter update that shows rotor size of 15" for what is described as 12' machines. In the plans for the 15' machine it shows 14" rotors and arc shaped magnets. I will be building a 15' machine for what looks to be wind alley in northern Arizona. Wind maps show an average of 12-15 mph and it sure seems to be higher than that. I will get real readings before building blades. My questions are as follows, What size rotor? magnets? and coil?    Would like about 1.5kw@24v  I also need to know what size diodes for my rectifier bridge, Will 85amp be ok?  Any bigger and they get costly. Luckily i can work with wood and metal and have the tools needed. I have looked at a lot!! of postings for answers so any help will be appriciated.  Thanks much.

jt;

That is curious, I have pretty much been here since they poured the foundations and I never heard it called "homebrew wind turbine evolution". I don't visit the other pages much so maybe its a new thing.

Regardless, now that we got that squared away I am confident you will find some input here.

Good luck with it.

Have some toughts as you whant the big rotors you can aford mine on paper and soon to be built for 15 to 25 footer will be on 16.5 inch rotors with 24 magnets on each rotor and using the cheeper magnets of 2 x 1 x.5 n45 and using a yes I know a metal magnet holder of #14 gage will decrease the magnet field but have done it this way with dans design only with 16 manets and 12 coils for my 12 foot turbine flying for 6 months now and the positives of using metal magnet holder outway the neg so far  look at new rotors post for info cheers ibeweagle
