cheap 3 watt LED

Home Depot trying to get rid of them. Marked down again.

Mislabelled. When they scanned the package barcode it came up $4.61.

There were 2 cell and three cell versions on the shelf. They must be self ballasted because these are drop in replacements for krypton bulbs. They expect the rated voltage, so if you use rechargable batteries in a home-made device, your need 4 cells instead of three.

These are ouch bright.

Amazon sells them for $20 http://www.amazon.com/MAGLITE-SH33DCW6J-3-Watt-Flashlight-Upgrade/dp/B000IXAJG4/ref=pd_sim_hi_4

I use a two "C" cell maglite five or six hours a week and was getting bummed buying alkalines - I found plastic sleeve adapters for AA's to work in place of C's and nabbed one of the $9 LED modules just as you, found at HD, and used the new-style NiMH with no self-discharge and have been loving the new flashlight.

Only hitch is cold batteries dim pretty fast - but the light weight and 15 minute recharge are great! I'm looking now for a three cell "D" battery maglite to convert also for cold weather use...
