To go with my earlier post about a self supporting tower. These support huge windloads with no guys.

Gives me an idea of what is needed to support a wind gen at the 30' height with no guys. I am looking at a 5 foot rotor and some calculations I did showed that 2 24 foot 12 inch dia .25 wall uprights set 6 feet into concrete with another 10 inch dia 24 foot long piece in between will easily support 50 square feet of windload at 110 mph.

Humm,.......

After looking around their site

"These Tower Poles are now discontinued"

Wonder why?

just seems like a few guy lines would be a good way to have

tower still standing

after some extra hard winds

The thought of no guy lines is nice

but

my little 15' isn't a way of saying I've done that, but even it has guy lines.

Soon I'll have 30-50 up and will know more.

this is my 47' free standing tower with 7ft. mill flying when picture was taken, a 10' is up there now. it is a 52' fiberglass utility pole with 5' in concrere and 47' above ground. i have seen the top bend slighty in 60 mph winds but it has been up for over a year with no problems. pepa

Pepa -

How do you service that thing if the base is set in concrete?  Or do you have a boom truck to reach it?

"Pepa -

How do you service that" ?????????

My thoughts also, how to service it????

I'm pretty sure I see guy lines on the flag pole in background of the picture, or am I as crazy as has been said???

i used a salviged garage door track (heavy duty) and attached to the fiberglass poll with deck screws and i welded 1" x 3/16 metal straps at each 10' joint after i fit the straps to the pole. i put an extra strap at 5' below the top where the most stress would be, and one at the top, the pole came with a heavy alunium cap that was intended for a light attachment. i reworked this to accept a heavy bearing pully and installed 100' of 5/16 cable over it and used a boat trailor wench to raise carrage with ginn on it. see pictures that should explane the machinics of getting the genn up. see my upload files (47' going up and others)i hope this helps others who cannot climb or lift  but want to join the fun. the flag is on my first genn tower which is a 43' tilt-up seen in my files. pepa.
