Good Bridge rectifier??
« on: July 17, 2008, 05:25:51 AM »
Is this a good bridge rectifier for windmill purposes??

Thx

It should be ok but the voltage is a bit low if you are thinking of a 48v system.

Unless you have a manufacturers brand device you just have to assume it will do the job, but don't push it too hard. Even with full spec devices from IR or General Semiconductor these things will not handle 35A except into a resistive or inductive load and even they need an almost infinite heat sink. With capacitive or rectifier loads there is a further de rating.

Under typical conditions with reasonable heat sinks I would imagine it would be happy at about 15A. Their rating is for single phase and with wind power the rating is not a lot more for 3 phase so about 20Adc I would say is a realistic limit.

Although convenient I personally never use them except for small machines. If you need to parallel lots of them there is even more of a de rating and you are better off with stud diodes even though they are not so easy to mount.

Thx flux,...so these may work as a per phase rec? (3 coils per rec)?

thx

To use for 3 phase you need at least 1 and a half of them. Genarally it is easier to use 3 and parallel the sections of each.

I think DanB had connection diagrams on Otherpower somewhere.

I got a 1200v 60A 3 phase bridge on Ebay.

Here is one now: http://cgi.ebay.com/Diode-Bridge-Rectifier-60A-1200V-Model-60MT120KB_W0QQitemZ180266153894QQihZ008QQ

This is what i was thinking for a rect circuit it seems im making it more complicated than needed,....

These are the diodes that im using,..they are 35a each mounted on a cpu

heatsink....

Does that mean that these 4 diodes give me a a 70a capacity?

Thx

What about this one? It showed up on the same page as the first one and it's 3 phase.
