Conventional machines all have laminated stators.
Advantage is that you need much less magnets to do the job.
Disadvantages include:
Cogging (which could be severe in the case of a dual rotor axial),
Higher parasitic losses in the core,
Current limiting due to self inductance of the coils, leading to runaway in strong winds and poor short-circuit braking
The toroidally wound geometry of the 'Proven' style alternator avoids some of these issues because the coils have a lot of mutual inductance, and the core has no poles or teeth.
