First test Havin' Fun Now!

I started some ground testing today but the weather isn't co-operating. With my test tower only about 4 feet above the ground and blocked on most sides I am at least getting a couple gusts.

I have seen over 13 volts momentairly but that is with no load, other than an led array I threw together. Must say it is cool to see them light up. I didn't have any diodes except for the led's so I hooked a bunch in series to get them to light at a higher voltage. Definatly want to build an led voltmeter to keep an eye on it. I'll try and get a couple photos tonight if I get another gust.

is the totale blade 21"across or each blade 21" ?

my minnie mill has a bunch of l.e.d.s on it--made two little arms that

stick  out on each side,with a bunch of l.e.d.s mounted on them..

red fires up first then yellow and green last....

you should toss a resitor in there,so your l.e.d.s wont blow...

okay---went to your postings and saw your blade there..

is it made out a 5 gallon plastic lid ?

The lid is from a 9 gallon tub that used to have some kind of powdered teflon in it so it is 21" diameter. I would love to find one about 4 feet. I found an old electronic experiment kit with a breadboard and built this.

It works pretty well but I think it would be a lot better if I had a couple regulators for it.

Put TriColor LEDs on the AC output of the generator. It's really cool...

Wild, That is pretty neat looking indeed. Is that an ametek motor? If it is then I am trying to figure out how you mounted it. Mine only had 4, 8-32 holes on the shaft end. I am hoping to get enough power out of mine to heep a couple batteries charged in my garage and maybe run a few lights. I am concidering mounting it on 2" rigid pipe above the back corner of the roof and using the gable peak to support the pipe.

If I can get a 21' piece of pipe here somehow.

I use big muffler clamps to hold mine to the boom. Just don't torque them too tight or you distort the TDM case.

I've seen them mounted with U-bolts or big muffler clamps (school bus size?).

Like thise big muffler clamps. What kind of power do you get out of that 3 blade? I had a gust of wind today that brought mine up to 28 volts, no-load. Had all my leds really glowing. I HAVE TO get a tower up soon and do some real testing. Found a nice old 6 amp ammeter but I don't know if I dare hook it up. Might be better off building one of those homebrew meters.

Here are the power #s from the chart I posted a while back.

130. volt dc 2.5 hp, tred mill motor with 4 Jerry blades at 49" tip to tip.
     
5. mph 30 watts, 10mph 37 watts, 15mph 64 watts, 20mph 129 watts, 25mph 195 watts, 30mph 471 watts,
   
   

It prefoms much better than a SW-403, its not noisy and is wat cheaper.

What king of voltages did you get at theose speeds or what was the test load?

Oh sorry I missed your ? This test was done at 12 volts. The load is 6 Optima 800 cca batteries.
