Turbine construction
« on: April 25, 2005, 03:20:54 AM »
having dug the hole and wire tied all the re-bar, next came the 18 loads of concrete

vibrating poker got rid of air pockets then soil backfilled as soon as concrete firm enough to walk on.

4 weeks later; after some substantial hedge trimming;

I was told as long as i could get a 160t crane in rest would follow!

Nonetheless took some nifty driving to get blades reversed 1/2 mile up lane;

Hub and nacelle come on separate lorry as did each of the tow tower sections.

Hub then craned off onto stand prior to fixing blades

 to be continued.............

Ummm, I got one like that! Ok maybe not. looking forward to more. Going back to B.C. today through Pincher Creek AB, planned in extra time to stop and gawk at the the turbines. Want to make a special stop at the Vestas 1.8 MW which I think I saw just off the highway a week ago.

There's something to be said about big!

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

HOLY SHEEPDIP that thing is HUGE!!!  :O

I had an idea that what you were building wasn't exactly a disk brake rotor wind generator, but my goodness man.  I didn't clue in that you were planning on powering a small city!!  :)

Right now I'm just in such awe.  Also wishing I had the money to attempt something like that!!  I don't even have the money to buy a 1/144th scale model of it!!   LOL

Ooohhh Keith's bought a big one!

It really is a whopper. Will is pay for itself in sales to grid?

I definately can't run that in the back garden.

What make/model is that turbine?

Hub/blades remind me of a Nortank 200.

Just a tad too big for a 5 acre lot though ;)

Very nice, indeed! I want one in my garden too...

BTW, I noticed it's a Dutch truck ('uitzonderlijk vervoer', plus the license plate :-) ), where is it somewhere? (am in NL myself).

I have noticed a LOT of trucks lately with windgenerator parts. Every couple of weeks at a motel stop in NL ('Wouwse Tol', between Bergen op Zoom and Roosendaal); it are either 3 trucks with one blade each, or just one truck with the tower. (too bad nothing falls of those trucks ;-) I could use some parts). Every time I see one of those trucks, I get visions of a homebuilt windgenerator of that size....

Grtz,

Peter

'look what I found, fell of a truck, a perfectly good 500kW windgenerator'

Well why not. I'm gonna start carving my blades. I'm using one big tree for each one. ;) I may be carving awhile, even with a chainsaw.
