bill;

I have seen these used before in 2 styles. One is a simple water agitator / beater. The other is a low pressure, high volume air pump. Seems anything that can make the surface move keeps a hole ice free.

Looks like a perfect application of the low speed and high torque these have.

The open hole really improve fish survival up here where it can get freaking cold. Some shallow ponds freeze right to the bottom.

Good luck with it.

Cool!

I am guessing that has a fan blade under there somewhere?

And mostly just stirring the upper layer of water?

Might put the fan blade in a long pipe.

Bring some of the deeper warmer water to the surface.

Maybe a suitable size pipe for the fan, and some sump pump hose for the drop?

Looked like it would work well, but the project fell apart for other reasons.

It will help in summer with getting nitrogen, ammonia, etc

to the surface for natural dissipation,

and O2 down deeper.

I do have a 12" pvc pipe down about 6" from the pond bottem and a 10" prop inside

connected to the shaft. now that the ice is out i have to go and fix the floats.
