Report on Magnets and Hot Oil
« on: May 22, 2006, 07:08:17 AM »
Just a follow up note on my question from January regarding using magnets in aircooled motorcycle motors.

Alnico does lose flux in hot motors, but Neod magnets seem to be perfectly OK after about 50 hours of running time.

Amazing how much gloop they do pick up. Fortunately haven't found anything lumpy, just very fine stuff, much less gritty than toothpaste.

They have higher temperature formulations for Neodymium magnets.  The manufacturer I looked at had them listed as "35H" or "40H" with an H in the suffix.  I'm not sure what the increase in operating temperature was.  Rich
